This association addresses the growing need for the dedicated care of babies and toddlers in distress

• by extending and effectively co-coordinating the services of Registered Place of Safety Homes
• by sourcing, equipping and managing individual homes and families to look after babies and toddlers in crisis
• by establishing families to accommodate the growing number of sick, abandoned, HIV+, abused and disabled children, until they can be placed with a temporary or permanent family
• by screening and registering safety parents, co-coordinating these placements and acting as a supporting service to place of safety parents as well as social workers of all organisations

About TPOS:          
Currently we have 110 Place of Safety families taking care of 240 children.

Since opening our doors in October 2003, we have made a difference in the lives of more than 500 children.

In June 2007, we opened a Haven to accommodate children with medical problems (premature, HIV+, TB and Malnourished children). We have cared for 35 children.
The work they do:

1. Source and screen Place of Safety Parents;
2. Compile a register of Place of Safety Parents and outsource available parents to other welfare organisations;
3. Secure abandoned babies from hospitals and police stations and place the child with a suitable family;
4. Liaise with welfare organizations to formally act as a support system and coordinating body to them;
5. Admit babies and toddlers by placing them, after proper evaluation, with the most suitable family;
6. Support the Place of Safety families with general baby and child care (addressing traumatized children, developmental problems, various syndromes and immunizations);
7. Support the Place of Safety families by distribution of donations;
8. Give medical support to the Place of Safety families by negotiating services free of charge from general practitioners, pediatricians, occupational therapists and various other professionals;
9. Assist parents looking after HIV+ children on an emotional and physical level by training and updating parents' knowledge. We also monitor the progress of the disease closely, give advice on diet and medication and arrange regular blood tests;
10. Follow-up with social workers involved on the progress of every placement and explain statutory processes to Place of Safety parents;
11. Present a basic baby care course to all new place of safety and adoptive parents as well as regular workshops and training sessions on a variety of subjects;
12. Run an immunization clinic on a monthly basis at our offices;
13. Run various fund-raising and promotional initiatives with the assistance of volunteers.

Donations of any kind are very welcome. Food and toiletries are extremely welcome. We gladly accept second hand clothing, baby furniture and equipment, as well as toys - if these items are still in a good condition.
